Police Investigate Vehicle With Suspicious Device Blocking Fairfield Road

A report of a suspicious car in Fairfield led to a road closure and a response from the bomb squad, according to Fairfield Police.

The incident took place around 12:53 p.m. Tuesday when Fairfield police responded to a report of a suspicious car that was abandoned near Mill Plain Green, said Lt. Robert Kalamaras.

 Officers arrived to find the vehicle parked, blocking a portion of the roadway, with a suspicious device in plain view on the floorboard, Kalamaras said.

A perimeter was set up and several residences were evacuated for precautionary measures. Mill Plain Road was closed from I- 95 to Mill Plain Green for several hours, he added.

The Stamford Police Bomb Squad responded and determined that the device and materials were not explosive in nature, police said.

An investigation into the suspicious nature of the vehicle is continuing.
